Messages from the Dream Body

by Nancy Dakota Adlman

Messages from the Dream Body is a compelling poetic account of the Shaman's path. Nancy Dakota Adlman, the author of "Messages from the Dream Body" is a social work educator, clinical social worker and a psychotherapist in private practice as well as a Shamanic practitioner who has studied extensively with Shamans and healers from the Peruvian, Ecuadorian, and New Mexican traditions. She has incorporated this ancient and powerful form of healing into her work with clients.

Although only 32 pages in length, "Messages from the Dream Body" is most emphatically not a little book. It is a truly amazing piece of work - beautifully written, and a joy to read. In it, the author does not "tell" us what shamanism is. She does something much better, much richer and more satisfying: she shows us what it is.

Shamanism, not so much a religious tradition as a spiritual technology, is a world view based on the belief that everything in the universe is connected and interdependant. It embraces a deep respect for the natural world and considers spiritual development to be the most important work humans can accomplish. It also understands that the world of the spirit is all around us and can be readily and directly accessed by anyone, especially through shamanic rituals and ceremonies. Preeminent among these is an experiential process known as the Dream Body (or, the Dream Body), a process of sound, movement, and other sensory stimuli by means of which the outer world of everyday events is allowed to fall away from the forefront of conscious awareness and the other world, the world of spirit, the so-called "underground stream" is brought to the center of attention. The author writes:

"We all have an inner landscape which calls to us.

A geography and map

we may not recognize

on a conscious level.

But something inside resonates

and pulls us - closer.

And if we dare to stay open,

the grasslands collide with one another

In perfect definition,

the ghosts of the buffalo roam

and the heart of the prairie fire

lights the sky crimson and gold."

Ms. Adlman is to be thanked for this rich, powerful and transformative introduction to the world of shamanism and of the Dream Body. Through its pages, the primitive, poetic and vibrant recounting of her Shamanic dreams, experiences, and initiations awaken in readers the power of their own inner knowing and intuitive wisdom. Reading "Messages from the Dream Body" will awaken the Shaman in readers, setting them off on their vision quest and enabling them to retrieve the tools and teachings of our ancestors for enhanced wholeness and balance in their lives and for the preservation of our planet.

The author writes beautiful words that will shake your soul if you listen with your heart, opening you to the spirit world within. Use this book to further develop yourself as a Shaman and a healer in your own right.

I enthusiastically recommend "Messages from the Dream Body" for every student and practitioner of healing and of shamanism as well as for every lover of truly evocative poetry.
