Ayurveda Doctor Degree

At Sai Ayurvedic Institute, the program of instruction is both sequential and modular and consists of three freestanding programs of study, combination of all three of which leads to the award of the Doctor of Ayurveda degree.

Completion of the first 12 months of study leads to certification as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor. Instructions given in that first year program in the element of Ayurveda’s tridoshic theory, Ayurvedic psychology and nutrition, the fundamentals of Ayurveda herbal medicine, detoxification therapies and the application of Ayurvedic treatment principles to commonly encountered health problems.

The second year of instruction known as Ayurvedic Practitioner includes classes in the more advanced elements of Ayurvedic physiology, pathology, diagnosis, (focusing on clinical pulse diagnosis). Classes are also given in advanced herbal medicine and formulation. The second year culminates in a series of courses in what is known as Kaya Chikitsa, or internal medicine.

The third and final year study leading to the award of the Doctor of Ayurveda Degree consists of 16 months of coursework focusing on the integration of Ayurveda and Western biomedical modalities.  Students are given a thorough grounding in the disciplines of western medical science to enable them to work with and integrate their approaches with contemporary western biomedicine. At some point after the first year of instruction but before the culmination of the third, the student is required to undergo a three week clinical internship at a cooperating Ayurvedic institution in India, under the supervision of experienced clinicians.

Ayurvedic Health Counselor

Ayurvedic Health
Counselor (1st year)

A 12-month course designed to provide a formal Ayurvedic education, preparing holistic health practitioners and clinicians as well as lifestyle counselors.  Graduates will be qualified to teach the basic principles of Ayurveda and conduct Ayurvedic lifestyle consultations. It also serves as the basis of our optional second- and third-year programs.

Ayurvedic Practicioner

Ayurvedic Practitioner
(2nd year)

A 12-month hybrid course, it is a continuation of our first-year course, offering the highest level of ayurvedic education and training available outside India. Students completing the 2-year program will be awarded the practitioner-level – Associate of Vedic Studies degree in Ayurveda, and will be eligible for registration as an Ayurvedic Practitioner with the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals in North America.

Ayurvedic Doctor

Ayurvedic Doctor
(3rd Year)

A 16-month hybrid course is a continuation of our second-year course, offering the highest level of ayurvedic education and training available outside India. Students completing the 3-year program will be awarded Doctor of Ayurveda Degree and will be eligible for registration as an Ayurvedic Doctor with the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals in North America.
